MINOR LEAGUE JANUARY RE-SCHEDULE
The scheduled Minor League competition set for January 6th is going to be held two weeks later on Friday January 20th. This is due to the Element “Make it Count” contest going on January 7th here at Midtown, and the Surf Expo happening the following weekend January 12-14.
January 20th Midtown’s Minor League Series will resume at the usual time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
MINOR LEAGUE Contest Series
This Friday, December 2nd at 4PM, the Midtown Minor League Contest Series is kicking off for all skateboarders ages 15 and younger. This is going to be a year long contest circuit, with contests happening the FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH.
Each month, there will be 1- 60 second run and 1- 5 minute jam that will earn you a score out of 100 points. At the end of the runs/jams there will be a different contest, where the winner will win the prize of the month as well as SKATE FREE for the following month at Midtown.
At the end of the year, the 12th contest will be the finals which will be worth an extra 250 points, along with an award ceremony to give out props to all the skateboarders that killed it all year long. We will have some big prizes for the top 5, and you better believe the first place winner will skate free at Midtown for the entire following year.
Midtown’s Minor League is setup so that you can have fun if you enter each month’s contest, or even just one. If you are asking yourself, “I turn 16 in two months, can I still participate?” YES! As long as you enter the contest series before you turn 16, you can participate in all the years events.
Be here Friday December 2nd to kick it off!
Surf Expo Sept 2011 / Midtown Crew
So… Surf Expo was this weekend. The Course wasn’t as nice as the last couple times but we still had fun and filmed some stuff with Jon Scianeaux, Tj Harris, Chris Blake & Mike Wine. Filmed & Edited by Kevin Perez
1 Year Anniversary Coverage
The Midtown Skatepark 1 Year Anniversary Event was definitely one for the record books. In case you missed it, here’s a sample of the day’s festivities…
The day started off looking gloomy but mother nature smiled on us and held off the rain all afternoon. The grill was fired up and the park was buzzing. At 4pm the Best Trick contest got underway with the 15 & Under division followed by the 16 & Ups.
The level of skating that was going down in both divisions was jaw-dropping. I don’t know if it’s something in the FL water or if it’s just the current state of skateboarding, but either way the contest was off the richter scale.
When the dust finally settled from the Best Trick, we moved on the “Best of 2011″ awards. Some of the winners for obvious and others were a total surprise but all the winners had huge smiles and at the end of this great day everyone went home with a smile on their face.
It’s hard to believe it’s only been one year since the park opened. In the past year, we have seen many old friends and fresh new faces come through the doors. It’s been a great year and we are looking forward to many more in the future. Huge thanks to everyone that came out to the park this year, and everyone that joined us for the event. Big things are in the works for the next year so we hope to see you all again real soon!
