The Orlando Weekly recently released their annual Best of Orlando issue and although we didn’t get the top spot in the reader’s poll, we did get a nice write-up in the Staff Picks section:
Best community-minded skatepark
MidtownWe skateboarders (there is one of us here at the Weekly) are typically a self-centered bunch; while skating we can usually be found with a pair of headphones on, gaze averted downward, communicating only with taps of the board. But when we anti-social shredders see our cohorts breaking with the pack in an attempt to create a skateboarding community, we’re secretly thrilled. Midtown Skatepark, which opened last August on Forsyth Road, has brought a vibrant new skate scene to a quasi-industrial quadrant of town, not only by hosting a constantly changing – and improving – series of obstacles, but by playing host to lively contests, premieres of videos both local and national, and generally being a good place to watch dudes that are way better than you utterly kill it.

lord almighty… i am consistently amazed by the level of skateboarding ability that rolls thru the park on a daily basis. submitted by STEEZEMCGEE for your viewing pleasure is a clip of the session that went down last night. featuring midtown locs devin abreu and garrett miller.
Midtown will be open for a half day for 4th of July. there will be one session from 12 noon to 5pm. the shop and park will close at 5PM
Normal Hours will resume on Tuesday July 5th.
Go Skate Day 2011 is in the history books and the video clips are starting to trickle in. Damon Hall was the high ollie champ of the day, clocking in at 41.5 inches. Damn! That’s just 3.5 inches shy of world record height! Here’s two clips of the day’s events.
